In-home Lessons
Whether you just got yourself a new 10-week-old puppy or adopted a 10-year-old shelter rescue, training is an important for every day life with your canine companion and for leaning how to communicate with your dog. In-home lessons are perfect for people who’s schedule is too erratic for a regular weekly class, people who want more one-on-one training time, or those with specific behavioral or training needs that aren’t generally covered in group classes. I’ll work with you and your family to create a session package that answers your questions. Packages can range from a one time one-hour visit to multiple visits, depending on you and your dog’s needs. Let me know what you’re looking for and we’ll come up with a plan to get you there. Each private in-home lessons is followed up with an e-mail or phone call (or both!) to see how things are working out.
Group Lessons/Classes
Group lessons and classes are a great alternative to in-home lessons if you’re on budget and, at times, even recommended. Puppies need socialization time with other pups, so group lessons and classes have built-in time for that. Group lessons and classes run for one hour once a week for six weeks.
Classes: I teach basic puppy and adult obedience classes at RiverDog in Union Sq., Somerville, MA. Visit www.riverdogdaycare.com/ for more info on the class and to sign-up.
Group lessons: These are semi-private lessons held in your home — just you, your dog-owning friends and, of course, your dogs. It can be customized to what you and the other participants want to learn over the course of six weeks, or can be one of the basic manner/obedience classes listed below. These lessons are typically suited for two to four dogs. Inquiry if you think you would have more than four doggie participants.
Puppy I – Perfect for puppies 10 weeks to 6 months. This class covers the basic puppy manners including: sit, down, crate training/house breaking, socialization techniques, leave it, come-when-called and stay, as well as answering behavioral questions. Owners will learn how to use positive reinforcement training techniques to get desired behavior. Socialization time is built into the class for the puppies and, let’s be honest, for your amusement as well.
Adult I – Targeted for adult dogs, this class is similar to the Puppy I class minus the socialization time. You’ll learn how to use positive reinforcement to get desired behaviors from your dog, learn basic dog manners and how to set up your dog to succeed.
